Award categories for the Freezer Challenge<\/b><\/h2>\n

While every participating lab is a winner for helping save an incredible amount of energy, <\/span>we are proud to honor the below labs for their significant contribution to the Freezer Challenge.<\/p>\n

kwh\/day savings is not the only determinant of whether a lab or organization receives a top award or honorable mention. Many actions in the Freezer Challenge do not equate to energy savings – normalized points is the first factor looked at, then kwh\/day saved.<\/p>\n

Note: <\/b>Winning Streak Awards are<\/span><\/i> given to previous year’s winners that exceeded their energy savings from last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

  • University of California San Diego<\/li>\n
  • Eli Lilly and Company<\/li>\n
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/li>\n
  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    UC San Diego saved an estimated 500,000 kWh\/year, Lilly saved an estimated 130,400 kWh\/year, the CDC saved an estimated 367,400 kWh\/year, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center saved an estimated 25,000 kWh\/year.<\/p>\n

    Honorable mention goes to CU Boulder, the University of Virginia, Johnson & Johnson, Genentech, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab for their outstanding efforts.<\/p>\n

    Individual laboratory winners\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

    • The\u00a0Hoekstra Lab\u00a0from Harvard University<\/li>\n
    • The\u00a0Baker Lab\u00a0from Eli Lilly and Company<\/li>\n
    • The\u00a0Elemental Analysis Laboratory\u00a0from the CDCP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The Hoekstra Lab saved an estimated 13,000 kWh\/year, the Baker Lab saved an estimated 34,000 kWh\/year, and the Elemental Analysis Laboratory saved an estimated 64,500 kWh\/year.<\/p>\n

      Honorable mention in the individual lab category goes to the Vernet Lab and McCulloch Lab from UC San Diego, the Schmolzer Lab from the University of Alberta, the Riddell Lab from Eli Lilly and Company, the Weiner Lab from the CDCP, and the Joint Genome Institute from the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.\u00a0 These labs went above and beyond in their efforts to improve cold storage management and to reduce the environmental impact of their labs.<\/p>\n
